Dad vs. the Mighty Marathon

My father has decided to start training to run the September 2009 Quad Cities Marathon (www.qcmarathon.org/). He’s always done lots of races other like the QC Bix and 5 - 10 K races. He‘s even done a couple half marathons. But the full marathon will be quite the challenge for him.

He is working through the Compassion Malaria Intervention fund and for a small monetary donation, people will be providing a malaria net for a child to sleep under at night. (I think it’s $10, but I haven’t confirmed that with Dad yet). I don’t know what his goal is, but Josh & I will be pledging for at least one net -- $10 for such a great cause is hard to ignore! Ooo, and he’s also giving out ‘Bite Back’ bracelets for every donation he receives.

He’s started up a new website to talk about his training and to create awareness for the cause: stevesexcellentadventure.com/

And he’s not just running this race for himself. He has decided to dedicate it to malaria prevention and nets. Dennis Goetz, a close friend of Dad & Connie’s died a few years ago from malaria that he contracted while on a missions trip in Zambia. It’s obviously something that they are very passionate about.

Anyway, I thought I would pass the word along. It think it’s great what my dad is doing and I hope he does well with his training. And I hope that our next home we move to in February isn’t too far away so that I can be in the QC next September to cheer him on!

Thanks

Hey Sweetie..thanks for the plug. Everyone, please check out the website often. We will be giving continual updates on a bunch of good stuff. Not just the boring training updates:) Please consider making a pledge. You can't do everything, but you can do something. Compassion is a great organization. Thanks and God bless!
